British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has called on the international community to put pressure and facilitate the closure of arms supply lines to the warring parties in Sudan.
“We believe that probably more than a dozen countries are involved in arms supplies in one way or another: possibly through financing, production, transit and training... Now that there is international commitment and pressure, the parties must join forces and prevent arms supplies“, said Cooper, speaking at the Munich Security Conference.
She added that London is working on this issue not only with members of the “Sudan Quartet“, tasked with resolving the crisis in the country - the US, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt - but also with the African Union and Sudan's neighboring countries.
Since April 15, 2023, fierce fighting has been taking place in Sudan between the Rapid Reaction Forces, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, and the regular army.
