The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has accused Russia of showing “disregard for peace efforts“ by attacking Ukraine with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles at night, just before the resumption of talks in Geneva to end the nearly four-year war, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
“[Here is] To what extent Russia is ignoring peace efforts – a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine just before the next round of talks in Geneva. Main target - energy and civilian infrastructure“, wrote on the network "Ex" Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
Ukraine's air force intercepted 29 missiles and 396 drones launched by Russia overnight, local authorities said.
Ahead of the start of trilateral talks to end the war in Ukraine in Geneva, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said diplomacy would be more effective when based on "justice and strength," Reuters reported.
"The strength of pressure on the Russian Federation - pressure from sanctions and stable, rapid support for the Ukrainian army and our air defense," he wrote on social media.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have already arrived in Geneva, where they will hold a new round of talks to end the war, mediated by a US delegation, Agence France-Presse noted.
