Five people died and four were injured in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in the Spanish city of Manleu, near Barcelona, reported the Spanish news agency EFE, quoted by BTA.
The fire broke out in the attic of a five-story building converted into a residence.
At around 9:10 p.m. local time, residents of the building called 112 to report a fire on the top floor and smoke in the stairwell.
The fire was extinguished at 9:41 p.m., at which point firefighters discovered the first victim - a man who had suffered a heart attack. Firefighters found four more victims in the room.
Emergency medical teams deployed 11 ambulances and two psychological support teams.
Four people suffered minor injuries in the fire - three were released after being examined by emergency medical teams, and the fourth refused transport to hospital. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
