US President's Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff expressed hope that a new round of Ukraine talks could take place within the next three weeks, which would eventually lead to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Jared Kushner and I hope that we have presented some proposals to both sides that will lead to a meeting within the next three weeks and perhaps even a summit between Zelensky and President Putin. At some point, this could even turn into a trilateral meeting with President Trump, we'll see. "I don't think he's going to want to meet unless he understands that he can end this and get the best possible outcome," he said in an interview with Fox News.
Witkoff expressed hope that "there will be good news in the coming weeks" on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has always been honest with him during their meetings.
"He's always been honest with me. And when I say that, I get criticized, but it's true. He told me where his red lines are," Witkoff said.
He stressed that it was important for him to understand Russia's position. "I've been criticized for meeting with him eight times. How can you make a deal with someone on the other side if you don't understand where they're coming from? I had to understand their motives, their goals, etc. And I really think a lot of these meetings are becoming very relevant now," added Witkoff.
“So I think these meetings were important and I hope we can see this through,“ the US special presidential envoy expressed confidence.
