The changing security environment and transatlantic relations were discussed by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynski and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a meeting in Brussels. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on its website.

Minister Neynski highlighted the crucial role of NATO in ensuring the security and defense of Bulgaria, as well as the need to maintain transatlantic unity to address common threats and challenges.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the implementation of the decisions of the NATO Summit in The Hague to increase defense spending, as well as the fair distribution of burdens and responsibilities among allies, the MFA indicated. Special attention was paid to building the necessary capabilities to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defense, including on the Eastern Flank and in the Black Sea region.

On the eve of the anniversary of the start of the aggressive war waged by Russia, Minister Neynski confirmed Bulgaria's unwavering support for Ukraine, discussing options for its continuation within NATO mechanisms. Efforts to achieve a lasting and just peace were also welcomed.

Minister Neynski highlighted the need to maintain NATO's focus on the Western Balkans region and strengthen its resilience, given the ongoing complex threats and challenges, including the impacts of external factors.

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynski announced that she is considering a working visit to Ukraine. Earlier today, she spoke to Bulgarian journalists in Brussels, where she is participating in a meeting of her EU colleagues.
