The Chinese authorities consider the US State Department's accusation that China has conducted nuclear tests in recent years to be completely groundless, said Shen Jian, China's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary for disarmament affairs.
“The US accusations that China is conducting nuclear tests are completely groundless“, China Central Television quoted Shen Jian as saying at a session of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
He stressed that Beijing firmly supports the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. Shen Jian noted that Washington should adhere to its commitment to a moratorium on such activities and "support the global consensus" on this issue.
According to him, the US accusations against China are "just a pretext for the US side to resume its own nuclear tests."
According to Washington, Russia and China have conducted low-power nuclear tests in recent years, as happened in China on June 22, 2020, at a training ground near Lop Nur Lake in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (northwestern part of the country).
