A monument to Ukrainian poet, writer and politician Taras Shevchenko was desecrated in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, regional television channel En1 reported.
The monument, located near the university campus in Novi Sad, was sprayed with black paint by an unknown perpetrator yesterday. This happened hours before a planned gathering of citizens in solidarity with Ukraine and its people.
The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Novi Sad was erected in 2021 and was donated by the Ukrainian city of Lviv, the television channel recalls. The work is the work of Ukrainian sculptor Volodymyr Tsisaryk.
