Another round of talks between Iran and the United States in Geneva ended after a day of significant progress, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, whose country is mediating the talks, said, quoted by Reuters, BTA.

He added that the talks would resume soon, after consultations with the relevant capitals.

The Omani foreign minister added that technical-level discussions would be held next week in Vienna, where the International Atomic Energy Agency is headquartered.

US President Donald Trump wants an agreement to limit Iran's nuclear program and sees an opportunity for this as Tehran grapples with growing discontent after nationwide protests, the Associated Press noted.

Iran, for its part, is also trying to prevent war but insists on its right to enriches uranium and is unwilling to discuss other issues, such as its long-range missile program or its support for armed groups such as “Hamas“ and “Hezbollah“.

Ali Vaez – Iran expert at the International Crisis Group – said the fact that the Americans did not leave immediately after Tehran presented its latest proposal today was a good sign.

“There may not be a breakthrough at the end of the day yet, but the very fact that the American team is back shows that there is enough common ground between the two sides,“ he added.

The two sides held multiple rounds of talks last year that collapsed after Israel launched its 12-day war with Iran in June and the United States launched massive air strikes on nuclear sites, leaving much of Iran's nuclear program in ruins, although the full extent of the damage is still unknown.

The Geneva talks were led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, with the mediation of Oman. Today's round lasted about three hours.
