Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that events in the Middle East and the Gulf region give the Iranian people a chance to free themselves from the terrorist regime and ensure the safety of neighboring countries, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
"It is important for the United States to be decisive. Every time America is decisive, criminals around the world are weakened," he said in a video message after today's US and Israeli strikes on Iran. "It is fair to give the Iranian people the opportunity to free themselves from the terrorist regime and to ensure the security of all countries that suffer from terrorism originating from Iran," Zelensky added.
Iran is an important diplomatic, economic and military partner of Russia, including in relation to the invasion of Ukraine that began in 2022, AFP noted.
Kiev and the West accuse Tehran of supplying "Shahed" drones and short-range missiles to Moscow to attack Ukraine.
"Although the Ukrainians have never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime has decided to be Putin's accomplice," Zelensky said. According to him, Russia has carried out strikes with more than 57,000 Iranian-made drones since 2022.
