The US and Israel did not ask for military support from Germany for their operation against Iran, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told reporters after talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
“It was a very hypothetical discussion. It was not related to any specific requests. I told Trump that our Constitution allows us to participate in military operations only to defend the country and the Alliance, and otherwise only within the framework of the collective security system“, Merz noted. “This requires a decision by the German Bundestag and is not currently being discussed“, he stressed, reporting that the entire dialogue on this topic lasted about two minutes.
“No, at this point there are really no demands from either the Americans or the Israelis“, the Chancellor said, answering a clarifying question from reporters.
