Beijing intends to fight Taiwanese separatists and deal them “decisive blows”.
This is stated in the report of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (China's highest legislative body).
“We will deal decisive blows to the separatist forces defending the so-called Taiwan independence, oppose the interference of external forces, promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and advance the great cause of national reunification“, the document stressed.
It clarified that the Chinese government will “unwaveringly adhere to the party's overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan issue in the new era“ and firmly uphold the “one China” principle. It also plans to "deepen cross-strait exchanges, cooperation and integrated development, jointly inherit and develop Chinese culture", implement measures to ensure that Taiwanese compatriots have "equal opportunities with mainland residents", and improve their well-being in the name of national rejuvenation.
