Explosions in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and the city of Erbil - 1

Explosions were heard this evening in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and in the city of Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, journalists from Agence France-Presse reported.

The cause of the loud explosions in Baghdad remains unknown, but an eyewitness near the guarded "Green Zone", where the US embassy is located, said he saw air defense systems in the area being activated.

Since the start of the war in the Middle East, several drones have been intercepted near Baghdad airport, where a military base and the US diplomatic mission are located.

In Erbil, the administrative center of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, an AFP journalist reported hearing the noise by a drone flight, followed by at least three loud explosions.

Since the beginning of the war, drones have been intercepted several times over the city of Erbil, where a large American consulate is located.

The Austrian embassy in Tehran was moved today to the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku, due to the ongoing Israeli-American attacks on Iran.

This was announced by Foreign Ministry spokesman Clemens Mantl in Vienna.

Consular services have been suspended until further notice. There is no longer a need for return flights organized by the Foreign Ministry from the crisis region in the Middle East, the spokesman added, quoted by electronic media.

The Austrian Foreign Ministry recommends urgently using available regular flights, for example from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) or Doha (Qatar). So far, more than 800 people have been returned to Austria from Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on four organized flights.

A further 62 Austrians have been assisted in their return through the European Union's crisis mechanism, Mantl said.
