Iran warned Romania that it would react politically and legally if the country allows the United States to use bases on its territory for operations against Iran. This was reported by Digi24, citing Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai, quoted by the London-based publication "Iran International".
At a press conference in Tehran, he called on the parties not to intervene in the war.
“If Romania were to make its bases available to the United States, this would be tantamount to participating in military aggression against Iran“, Esmail Baghai noted.
According to him, such a move would be unacceptable under international law and would lead to Romania's international responsibility.
“This would become a black mark in the history of relations between Iran and Romania. Iran will respond accordingly, both legally and politically“, Bagai said.
On March 11, the Romanian parliament approved the request of the United States to temporarily deploy military forces and equipment in the country due to the war in Iran. At the time, President Nikos Dan stressed that this equipment was strictly defensive and would be deployed on the basis of the strategic partnership. “Romanians should not worry, the country is safer thanks to the increased American military presence“, the head of state said.
