Several loud explosions echoed this evening in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, journalists reported to the Agence France-Presse.
A security official said that an attack with drones and missiles was carried out against the US embassy.
In a Baghdad restaurant, an eyewitness told Agence France-Presse that he saw explosions in the sky. According to him, the embassy's air defense systems were activated to intercept the shells.
Another eyewitness said that from his balcony he saw a fire in the area of the embassy.
