The Washington Post: Pentagon seeks over $200 billion to continue war on Iran - 1

The US military is seeking funding of more than $200 billion to continue the operation against Iran, The Washington Post (WP) reported, citing sources.

According to the publication, the Pentagon has asked the White House to approve “a request for more than $200 billion from Congress to fund the war in Iran“. According to the publication, the Defense Department wants to use some of these funds to “urgently increase production of critical weapons, the stockpiles of which have been depleted after US and Israeli forces struck thousands of targets in the past three weeks“.

The article notes that “it is still not clear exactly how much the White House will ultimately ask lawmakers to approve“. Some officials of the Washington administration believe that providing $200 billion for these needs is unrealistic. The publication emphasizes that the Pentagon's attempt to provide these funds “will cause a major political battle in Congress“. The publication cites as an example that the US Congress has approved a total of $188 billion in budget appropriations for aid to Ukraine until December 2025.

In an interview with CBS on March 15, Kevin Hassett, head of the White House National Economic Council, said that the Washington administration is considering whether to request additional funding from Congress to continue the military operation against Iran. According to him, the US has spent approximately $12 billion on military operations in the first few days.
