The ruling "Freedom Movement" narrowly wins the parliamentary elections in Slovenia. 17 parties and coalitions participated in the vote, and the voter turnout reached 70 percent.

In a parliament with 90 seats, the "Freedom Movement" wins 29. The opposition "Slovenian Democratic Party" has one fewer. To form a majority to support the government, the leader of the winners and current Prime Minister Robert Golob must form a coalition with smaller parties, but analysts say the way the rest of the vote is distributed among a motley mosaic of formations makes it difficult to form a stable government.

AFP recalls that during Golob's previous administration, Slovenia legalized same-sex marriage and was among the few countries in Europe to condemn Israel's war in Gaza as "genocide". The chairman of the second party, Janez Jansa - considered a follower of Viktor Orban, questioned the fairness of the election process and said he expected early elections soon.
