Rain and snow cover Romania over the weekend and have created a complicated situation in many places in the country, local media reported, quoted by BTA.
“Winter has returned to Romania, Easter is approaching, and it seems that we are preparing for Christmas“, noted in a report on the subject by Antena1 Television.
In places in the mountains, the snow cover reached 175 cm.
“A cyclone is expected again from the middle of this week, which will bring new rain in the lowlands and snow in the mountains“, meteorologist Alina Serban informed on PRO TV.
An orange flood warning is in effect for four counties in Romania - Covasna, Harghita, Vrancea and Bacău. Due to the increased risk of the Putna River overflowing, dozens of people from Bailești and Mircea Veci were evacuated. A protective wall of 2,000 sandbags was built.
The unstable weather also provoked an extreme meteorological phenomenon near the border with Bulgaria. A powerful tornado formed near the Romanian village of Cernetu in Teleorman County, located a few kilometers from Ruse. Locals described it as a mini tornado.
