US President Donald Trump has allowed US forces to seize Iran's Kharg Island, Tehran's main oil terminal in the Persian Gulf, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.
"Maybe we'll take Kharg Island, maybe we won't. We have a lot of options", Trump said today in an interview with the "Financial Times". "That would also mean we have to stay there (on Kharg Island) for a while."
Iran has threatened to mine the Persian Gulf if a ground operation is launched against it. The US and Israel continued their attacks on the Islamic Republic, despite signs of progress in nascent ceasefire talks.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the strike on a key water and power plant in hard-hit Kuwait was carried out by Israel, not Iranian forces.
Trump also said Iran had agreed to allow 20 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday morning and continuing over the next few days, "as a sign of respect."
"I would just say we're doing extremely well in these negotiations, but with Iran you never know because you negotiate with them and then you always have to blow them up," the US president said.
The war has threatened global oil and natural gas supplies, caused fertilizer shortages and disrupted air travel, he said. AP.
