Belarus is categorically against war, but it must be ready for it, said the country's President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting dedicated to the results of the comprehensive check of the army, reports the Telegram channel "Pul Pervogo", quoted by Focus.
"There can be no peacetime. We are preparing for war. And in this audience, and not only in it, people must understand: we are absolutely against war. Especially our officers, our soldiers, the armed forces. Because we know what war is", he points out.
"We do not want war. But the army is designed for this: if someone suddenly decides to talk to us and look at us through the sights of a weapon, we will respond. We are preparing for this,” Lukashenko added.
According to him, the specificity of the combat readiness of the armed forces, checked by the president’s order, is due to the existing challenges in the immediate vicinity of the republic’s borders. "The president notes that the level of tasks, the pace of setting and implementing them were determined by the seriousness of the geopolitical situation, events and threats in the immediate vicinity of the Belarusian borders", the press service of the Belarusian president reported.
"I want my subordinates to be ready for war. And if we are ready for war, they will be afraid of us and no one will dare to come here. This is my goal“, Lukashenko also stated.
"We placed the participants in conditions as close as possible to real challenges. More precisely, I would say, to war. Without concessions for the weather, time of day and other factors that complicate the performance of combat missions“, the president commented.
The large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces of Belarus by order of the president has been held since January 16. A key feature of the inspection is its organization. The head of state of Belarus brought the military units into combat readiness, bypassing the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. The inspection was sudden in order to see the real state of the troops and assess the actions of the servicemen.
