A US delegation led by US special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is planning to visit the Ukrainian capital to resume talks, Kirill Budanov, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said in an interview with Bloomberg.
The US negotiators may arrive in Kiev after Orthodox Easter, which falls on April 12.
“Kushner, Witkoff and Lindsey Graham are expected to attend. We'll see who else will be there“, Budanov said.
Bloomberg noted that Witkoff and Kushner have visited Moscow several times, and their trip to Kiev will be their first. A US official told the agency that a possible trip by Witkoff and Kushner to Ukraine is being discussed, but has not yet been confirmed.
Ukraine is demanding a clear explanation from the US about security guarantees as part of a potential deal to end the conflict. Kiev is also concerned about the level of these guarantees and their activation in the event of a resumption of the conflict, Bloomberg reports. Budanov believes that Ukraine can achieve more reliable conditions after the visit of the US delegation.
“We have long defined what we want. I think it will be implemented soon. What will happen after that is another question. But in terms of security guarantees, we have definitely made progress – we have already moved forward“, said the head of Volodymyr Zelensky's office.
The Kremlin previously announced a pause in the negotiation process. “The American negotiators have different priorities now and indeed the venue for the meeting has not yet been determined“, noted presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
