Erdogan to Rutte: Military conflict in the Middle East leads to geostrategic impasse - 1

The military conflict in the Middle East leads to a “geostrategic impasse“, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish leader made the statement during a phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the “Daily Sabah“ newspaper reported.

Erdogan noted that the escalation caused by the bombings against Iran risks prolonging instability in the region and that the international community must strengthen diplomatic efforts to end the hostilities.

The president pointed to NATO's support for Turkey's air defense and noted that solidarity in this process further emphasizes the deterrent power of the alliance.

He added that efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine were continuing and confirmed Ankara's readiness to play the role of mediator.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant had previously been hit by its fourth attack since the start of the US-Israeli military operation. The explosion killed a security guard and damaged an auxiliary building, but no radiation leak was detected.
