Trump: Our problems with NATO started with Greenland, the paper tiger refused to help us in Iran - 1

The problems in relations between the US and NATO started with Greenland, US President Donald Trump told journalists.

„It all started with Greenland. We want Greenland, and they don't want to give it to us, and I said: „Bye!“, the politician said.

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly stated that the US should control Greenland. He believes that Denmark is not able to guarantee the security of a region strategically important to Washington. The Republican has repeatedly called Greenland strategically important to the United States.

Although he has abandoned threats to seize the island by force, his interest in the region remains high. Politico reported that Trump is interested in Greenland's natural resources, including significant oil and gas reserves.

The American leader admitted that he was very disappointed by the refusal of NATO countries to help in the war with Iran.

“That will never fade from my memory“, he explained. According to Trump, “At first they said: “We'll do this, we'll do that“, but in reality they did everything they could not to help us.“ The politician again called NATO a “paper tiger“.

Trump noted that it was not just about NATO, pointing out that South Korea, Japan and Australia also refused to help the US in the war with Iran. “We have 50,000 troops in Japan to protect them from North Korea, and 45,000 in South Korea to protect them from Kim Jong-un, who I got along very well with, as you know, he said good things about me“, Trump added.
