US Vice President J.D. Vance, special presidential envoy Steve Whitkoff and White House son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to represent the United States at peace talks with Iran planned to be held in Islamabad, CNN reported, citing US administration officials.

According to them, the talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad will be held in the presence of Pakistani representatives who will act as mediators. Islamabad could be added to Vance's itinerary, currently in Hungary, for his overseas trip.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has invited Iranian and American delegations to talks in Islamabad on April 10.

The talks between American and Iranian representatives will be direct, Pakistani state television reported.

“I express my gratitude to the leadership of both countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, to hold further talks to reach a final agreement to resolve all disputes,“ Sharif wrote in X.

After announcing a ceasefire with Iran, US President Donald Trump expressed cautious optimism about the ultimate success of the talks with the Islamic Republic.

“He was extremely serious in his conversation with me just now and also, although cautiously, was seriously optimistic“, host Laura Ingram said of her conversation with the US prime minister on Fox News.

The host added that Trump noted the “incredible difficulty“ of the negotiations and that “he doesn't want them to be jeopardized“.
