Hungary's political views and ideological preferences have turned out to be closer to those of the United States than to those of its traditional European allies, who continue to support the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at a pre-election rally in Sopron.
„The European Union, which was created to guarantee peace in Europe, is now on the side of war. Surprisingly, despite its geographical distance, the United States is now closer to us than our traditional European allies. In contrast, America advocates for peace in Ukraine, fights migration, and respects and protects families,” the prime minister said.
He thanked US President Donald Trump and Vice President Jay D. Vance, who wrapped up a two-day visit to Budapest on Wednesday, for their support.
During a meeting with Orban and at public events, Vance wished him success in the upcoming parliamentary elections on April 12. The prime minister’s ruling Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Alliance party is fighting against the opposition Tisza party, whose leader, Peter Magyar, enjoys the support of the EU leadership.
