The US has agreed to unfreeze Iranian assets frozen in banks in Qatar and other countries, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed senior Iranian source.
The source welcomed the move, calling it confirmation of Washington's seriousness ahead of the talks in Pakistan. The Iranian official also noted that the unfreezing of the funds was “directly related to ensuring the safe passage of [ships] through the Strait of Hormuz“. The amount of funds to be unfrozen has not been specified.
According to Reuters, the American side has not yet commented on this issue.
On Saturday evening, an Iranian delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in the Pakistani capital for negotiations with the United States to resolve the conflict. On Saturday morning, US Vice President J. D. Vance, who leads the American negotiators, arrived in Pakistan. Al-Hadath TV reported that negotiations between the United States and Iran will begin after 2:00 p.m. Bulgarian time. According to its sources, indirect consultations have already been held, and the upcoming talks will be direct.
