Tehran: US attempts to block Strait of Hormuz doomed to failure - 1

US attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz are “doomed to fail“ and Tehran will not allow such a move, said Mohsen Rezaei, senior military adviser to Iran's supreme leader.

“Iran cannot be deterred by tweets and fictitious plans for a blockade“, he was quoted as saying by CNN.

Rezaei added that the Iranian armed forces “will not allow such a move by the US“, as the military possesses “significant untapped capabilities“ to counter any threats.

On April 11, Iran and the United States held several rounds of talks in Islamabad. The Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the American delegation was led by Vice President Jay D. Vance. As later reported in Tehran and Washington, the parties failed to reach an agreement on a long-term settlement of the conflict due to a number of differences.

Details of a possible new round of talks remain unknown.

Washington announced that it was imposing a blockade on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which will begin at 17:00 Bulgarian time on Sunday. The US Central Command announced that the movement of ships to and from Iranian ports would be prevented.
