The British armed forces said today that two gunboats of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the AP reported, BTA reported.
This happened after Iran reimposed restrictions on navigation in the vital sea route.
The British Merchant Marine Operations Service reported that the tanker and crew were safe. However, it did not identify the vessel, nor did it indicate its destination.
Iran announced earlier today that it was reimposing restrictions in the strait in response to the US blockade of Iranian ships and ports. Since the beginning of the seven-week war, Iran has not allowed ships to pass through the strait, except for those that receive special permission.
