The Israeli army said today that it had set up a yellow demarcation line in southern Lebanon, similar to the one in the Gaza Strip, and since yesterday it has been striking at suspicious individuals approaching Israeli forces, AFP reported, BTA reported.

"Over the past 24 hours, (Israeli) forces south of the yellow line in southern Lebanon have observed terrorists violating the terms of the ceasefire and approaching the yellow line from the north in a manner that poses an immediate threat," a military communiqué published on the second day of the truce with Lebanon said.

"Immediately after their identification and in order to eliminate this threat, the air force and ground forces attacked the terrorists in several sectors in South Lebanon", the text adds. Israeli artillery fire in support of ground forces operating in the area is also reported.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said today that the French contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon was attacked in the south of the country, on the second day of the ceasefire with Israel, Agence France-Presse reported.

"I categorically condemn the attack on soldiers of the French contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon", Nawaf Salam wrote on the social network "Ex", adding that he had ordered an "immediate investigation" to arrest the perpetrators.

A spokesman for the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon confirmed to AFP that there had been an "incident" in southern Lebanon this morning. He said an investigation had been launched, without providing further details about the circumstances or possible casualties in the incident.

Later, French President Emmanuel Macron, quoted by Agence France-Presse, said that one French soldier was killed and three were wounded in today's attack on the Blue Helmets in southern Lebanon. The French leader said that "everything shows that responsibility for this attack lies with Hezbollah."

"The nation pays its respects and expresses its support to the families of our soldiers and to all our military personnel who are committed to peace in Lebanon. Everything shows that responsibility for this attack lies with Hezbollah. France demands that the Lebanese authorities immediately arrest those responsible and assume their responsibility alongside the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon," Macron said in "Express."
