The shooting took place in the Goloseevsky district of the city. The Ukrainian publication "Insider" published a video showing a man in civilian clothes running through a yard with a machine gun in his hand. The gunman hid in a "Welmart" supermarket and took hostages. According to preliminary data, shots were also heard inside the supermarket.
The building is surrounded by security forces. Special forces are preparing to storm it. At the same time, a group of negotiators are trying to convince the gunman to surrender.
According to Ukrainian TV Channel 24, the shooter used explosives, which caused a fire.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the deaths and injuries, but did not provide an exact number.
