Italy has become the second country in the European Union after France with a public debt of over 3 trillion euros, according to data from the statistical agency Eurostat.

Italy's public debt increased by over 100 billion euros in 2025, reaching 3.095 trillion euros.

In France, this figure exceeded 3.5 trillion euros.

Germany's debt increased by almost 150 billion euros in 2025, reaching over 2.8 trillion euros.

The ratio of public debt to GDP across the EU increased from 80.7% in 2024 to 81.7% in 2025.

In Italy, this figure was 137.1%, higher only in Greece (146.1%).

They were followed by France (115.5%), Belgium (107.9%) and Spain (100.7%).
