King Charles III of Britain has welcomed US President Donald Trump's lifting of tariffs on Scotch whisky, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.
“The King has been informed of President Trump's warm gesture. He expresses his sincere gratitude for this decision, which will have a significant impact on the British whisky industry and its people. His Majesty will raise a glass of whisky as a token of respect and the President's generous hospitality“, the statement said.
On April 30, Trump announced that, at the request of Charles III, he would lift tariffs on the production of Scotch whisky. Bloomberg reported that the UK is losing an estimated $27 million a month due to tariffs on this industry.
Charles III paid a state visit to the US from April 27 to 30. He addressed Congress and was received by Trump at the White House.
