The night of August 23, 2026, became one of the most intense phases of aerial confrontation using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) since the beginning of the conflict. Both warring parties reported massive attacks of unprecedented intensity. As of 9:48 Bulgarian time, official military departments in Kiev and Moscow published current data on the scale of the strikes and damage to infrastructure.
Strikes on Ukraine: 127 drones attacked the country
According to an official statement by VSU Air Force, distributed by the media Ukrainskaya Pravda (pravda.com.ua/rus/news/2026/08/23/8049900/), during the night the Russian army fired a total 127 drones of various types. Ukrainian air defense managed to neutralize or suppress with radar means 97 of them in the northern, southern and eastern parts of the country.
Despite the high interception rate, the military reported registered hits of 27 strike UAVs in 22 different locations, as well as falling debris in three more places. Among the serious incidents is an attack with a jet drone against a private house in the city of Kharkiv, which caused large-scale fires.
The counterattack: Russia reports 328 downed Ukrainian UAVs
An almost mirror-image massive attack was also launched in the direction of the Russian regions. Russian Ministry of Defense cited by Kommersant (kommersant.ru/doc/8906364), announced that in the time period between 20:00 on August 22 and 8:00 on August 23, the air defense forces on duty destroyed and intercepted 328 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones.
Operations to repel the attacks were carried out over a total of 18 Russian regions, including the waters of the Azov and Black Seas. According to information from the media agency RosBalt (rosbalt.ru/news/2026-08-23/bolee-300-dronov-nochyu-atakovali-rossiyu-est-ranenye-zagorelsya-sklad-ozon-5665538), the consequences of the attack include:
- Moscow Region: Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed six downed aircraft flying directly towards the capital.
- Orenburg Region: Drone debris fell on the territory of the Ozon company's logistics complex, causing a fire that was later extinguished by Emergency Situations Ministry teams.
- Rostov region:Svaleni with about 30 drones. Fragments from the fire damaged the contact line of the mrezha on the railway line in the Chertkovsky district.
- Belgorod region: Registration of sa trima wounded civilians as a result of detonation on an FPV drone, inclusive of the 17th year momiche.
Military expertise is whitened, greatly increased by the use of unmanned technology and from two countries, turning airspace into a key and extremely dynamic zone on the sky. The situation at the site remains under pressure, and rescue services will continue to clear the area from the fallen fragments.
