Keir Starmer has announced that he is resigning as MP for the Holborn and St Pancras constituency. His actions will force a by-election for this seat in London, the BBC reports.
He noted that it had been a great honour and privilege for him to represent the area for 11 years, but now it was time to turn his attention to international affairs. In the summer, he resigned from the post of Prime Minister. After parting with the post of Prime Minister, he said that he would remain an MP until the next general election.
Now Starmer emphasizes that he is ready to pass the baton to his successor. He assured that he would continue his fight against violence against women.
A date for the by-election will not be set until Starmer officially resigns his seat in the House of Commons.
The constituency of "Holborn and St. Pancras" has long been a stronghold of the Labour Party. In the 2024 general election, the former British prime minister won there by a margin of more than 11,000 votes.
