March 1 is Thanksgiving Day in Kazakhstan - 1

The Day of Thanksgiving of all ethnic groups to each other and to the Kazakhs was proposed to be established by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Speaking at the session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev reminded that entire peoples were deported to Kazakhstan.

„During the Stalinist regime, entire peoples were deported in different years. They were unloaded from the wagons directly into the steppe, in the villages, without anything. At the same time, only Kazakhs and Kazakh families lived in this steppe, who themselves were in need, but they took people into their adobe houses,” he noted.

Nursultan Nazarbayev recalled that his family also sheltered deportees. “Our family, living in a two-room adobe house, took in a family with three children. I can see it before my eyes: they huddled in one corner of the room and were afraid of everything – with torn clothes, hungry, overgrown.

And they lived with our family, started working, they remained grateful to us all their lives. I made friends with their children,” the president said.

“It would be fair to mark the day of the establishment of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan – "March 1 should be celebrated every year as a Day of Gratitude of all ethnic groups to each other and to the Kazakhs who showed mercy and accepted these people," added the President of Kazakhstan.
