The Italian Air Force today said it had intercepted unidentified aircraft flying over international waters in the Baltic Sea. According to two Italian defense sources, it is about Russian planes, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
The two interceptions were carried out yesterday and this morning by Italian "Eurofighter" fighters. (Eurofighter), located at the Polish base "Malbork" as part of a NATO airspace security mission, the Italian Air Force said in a statement.
After completing their tasks, the Italian fighter jets returned to the Polish base, the Italian Air Force also said, without giving further details.
The two defense sources said the Russian planes were detected by radar but did not respond to radio signals and requests for contact.
