General Sirsky: The Russian army outnumbers us at the front by a ratio of 6 to 1 - 1

"Russia outnumbers Ukrainian forces six times on the front line, causing losses of troops and positions," said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) General Oleksandr Sirsky in an interview with Ukrinform.

"A few days ago, the enemy's advantage in terms of ammunition fired was about six to one,", Sirski stated.

"Defence forces are now carrying out tasks across the vast front line with little or no weapons and ammunition," he warned, stressing that in some areas the situation was "tense".

Sirsky, who took over as commander-in-chief in February after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy released Valery Zaluzhny, commented on the situation on the front line.

"The situation at the front is really difficult. But it's no different from the front. Undoubtedly, every day demands maximum effort from our soldiers and officers. But we are not only standing on the defensive, but also moving forward in different directions every day. Recently, the number of positions regained exceeds the number of positions lost. The enemy has not been able to advance significantly in strategic directions, its territorial gains, if any, are of tactical importance. We are monitoring this situation," commented Sirski.

"It must be recognized that the current situation in certain directions is tense. Russian forces continue to increase their efforts and have a numerical advantage in terms of personnel. They traditionally do not pay attention to losses and continue to use the tactics of massed attacks. In certain directions, the divisions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces repulse several dozen attacks every day," the commander-in-chief declared.

"The experience of the last months and weeks shows that the enemy has significantly increased the activity of aviation, uses anti-aircraft missiles - guided air bombs that destroy our positions. In addition, the enemy is conducting heavy artillery and mortar fire. Until a few days ago, the advantage of the enemy in terms of ammunition fired was about 6:1", he reports.

"But we learned to fight not with the amount of ammunition, but with the ability to use the available weapons. In addition, we are making the most of the benefits of drones. Although the enemy is trying to overtake us in this effective weapon".

"The adversary continues offensive actions on a wide front, tries at all costs to reach the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, to press us on the left bank of the Dnieper in Zaporozhye region," he adds.
