The European economy has reduced its economic dependencies on Russia and China, stated to media representatives within the framework of the ninth edition of the Summit of the "Three Seas" Initiative held yesterday. in Lithuania, the European Commissioner for the Environment Virginius Sinkevičius, BTA reported.

At the beginning of his speech, he focused on Ukraine, which was the focus of today's forum at the Palace of the Grand Dukes in the Lithuanian capital.

"Now what we are trying to do is to help Ukraine in the struggle it is waging, and we will help with whatever is necessary," said the Lithuanian Sinkevichus.

"On the other hand, the most important thing we have done is that we have reduced our economic dependencies. Above all, we reduced our dependence on Russian fossil fuels, as well as the dependence of our economy on Chinese-made materials. These are the main points that we discussed today", noted the European Commissioner.

The initiative "Three Seas" is a political project of 13 EU countries located between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black seas, including Bulgaria. Also participating are Lithuania, whose president Gitanas Nauseda is hosting the forum today, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania and Greece. Ukraine and Moldova enjoy the status of associated participating countries.

The goal of the "Three Seas" Initiative; is to promote faster development and convergence of the region by increasing the interconnection of Member States in the fields of transport, energy and digitalisation, in particular along the North-South axis, with the aim of improving EU convergence and consolidating the transatlantic partnership between The EU and the USA, and as of today, Japan has joined the Initiative as a strategic partner.
