Germany and Britain plan to jointly develop a remote-controlled howitzer for future military operations, the British government announced today when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited Berlin, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Within the “joint venture” will be developed “remotely controlled 155 mm wheeled howitzer artillery systems (RCH 155) to be mounted on “Boxer“ from the German tank manufacturer “Krauss-Maffei Wegmann”(Krauss-Maffei Wegmann/KMW), stated in the statement of “Downing Street” 10.
The howitzer can fire up to nine 155-millimeter artillery shells per minute at a distance of up to 40 kilometers.
The RCH 155 is the world's first howitzer that can fire while moving and is therefore better suited to evading enemy fire, the UK statement added.
The visit to Berlin is the first for Sunak, who has been in office since October 2022. He arrived last night after visiting the Polish capital, Warsaw.
A joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is planned for the early afternoon.
According to British sources, in addition to enhanced cooperation in the field of defense, the two heads of government also want to discuss cooperation in the field of energy and the fight against organized crime.
The two leaders also plan to discuss the export of hydrogen as an energy source from the UK to Germany.
