The Netherlands honored the memory of the victims of the Second World War - 1

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and the Prime Minister of the country Mark Rutte were among the approximately four thousand people in Amsterdam , who attended today's traditional commemorative ceremony for the victims of the Second World War, which is held every year, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

The agency specified that the commemoration of the dead took place under increased security measures due to the conflict between Israel and the radical Palestinian group "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip.

The ceremony at Dam Square in the center of Amsterdam was marked by the usual two minutes of silence at 20:00 local time (21:00 Bulgarian time), during which there were no protests despite the concerns of local authorities, noted Reuters.

The agency said that usually about 20,000 people attend the commemoration, but earlier this week the municipal government announced unprecedented security measures to ensure the safe conduct of the ceremony and prevent unrest related to the conflict in Gaza.

Reuters recalls that at the opening of the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam in March this year, pro-Palestinian demonstrators protested Israel's military actions in Gaza, setting off fireworks and booing Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog during his visit.
