The Russian army said today that it had captured the village of Ocheretino in eastern Ukraine, reported AFP . The agency notes that this is another sign of the progress of Russian forces at the front, writes BTA.
A statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said its soldiers had "fully liberated" this village in the Donetsk region, northwest of Avdeevka, which fell under the control of the Russian army in February.
In recent months, Moscow has regularly announced that it has established control over small settlements in the area.
On Thursday, the Russian army said it had captured the village of Berdichi, also near Avdeyevka.
Ukraine's army went on the defensive after the failure of its major counteroffensive last summer.
Russia has taken the initiative against Kiev's forces, which are having difficulty recruiting new soldiers and facing a delay in aid from the West, according to AFP.
