Missile War: Ukrainian Army's Deadliest Strikes

Russian troops are generally outnumbered by Ukrainians on the battlefield by almost three to one, but Ukraine uses weapons such as the US-supplied High Mobility Artillery Missile System (HIMARS) and Western cruise missiles to inflict heavy losses on the Russian army. Business Insider recalls 9 of Ukraine's deadliest strikes, including those with US HIMARS and ATACMS:

The destruction of 100 Russian soldiers using ATACMS. Ukrainian armed forces have reportedly launched a missile strike at a Russian military training ground near the front line in occupied Luhansk. According to a May 1, 2024 report on the Osinttechnical website, it appears that the attack on the range was carried out with three US-supplied M39 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.

Two HIMARS missiles struck a company of Russian soldiers as they waited for the general to appear. In February 2024, a Ukrainian HIMARS missile strike reportedly killed at least 60 Russian soldiers who had massed in an open field at a training ground near the village of Trudovskoe.

Attack on Russian troops near Kherson. On November 10, 2023, Ukrainian armed forces reportedly killed more than 70 Russian soldiers in an attack on the village of Khladkivka in Kherson Oblast. The attack was directed against a convoy of Russian military trucks.

The attack on the Russian ship "Novocherkask". On December 26, 2023, a shipwreck was reported in Feodosia as a result of powerful explosions. It is reported that 77 Russian sailors were on board, 33 were missing and 19 were injured. There is information that the ship was attacked by British Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

Attack on Russian troops on Dzharylgach Island. In August 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reportedly launched a HIMARS strike against Russian soldiers during a training exercise on the island. At the time, Ukraine said 200 people died in the attack.

Attack during a speech of a commander in Kremennaya. In July 2023, Ukrainian HIMARS reportedly struck a large gathering of Russian soldiers in the town of Kremennaya during a commander's speech. Some reports put the death toll at 200.

On New Year's Eve, an attack was carried out with HIMARS against the town of Makeevka. The Russian Defense Ministry said 89 servicemen were killed in the strike by Ukrainian armed forces, while Ukraine reported around 400 killed and 300 wounded.

The attack on Russian troops on the Seversky Donets River. In May 2022, Ukrainian forces reportedly destroyed a Russian battalion as it attempted to cross the Seversky Donets River. According to ISW estimates, the number of Russians killed and wounded was approximately 485, and more than 80 pieces of equipment may have been destroyed. According to media reports, Ukraine used M777 howitzers to attack the battalion.

Destruction of the missile cruiser "Moscow". On April 14, 2022, Ukrainian officials claimed that their forces struck the ship with at least one Neptune missile, which was confirmed by the Pentagon. Ukraine said almost all 500 sailors on board had died.
