Chinese President Xi Jinping is in favor of resolving the Ukrainian conflict and will not support French President Emmanuel Macron's position to send Western troops to Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the former French ambassador to China and the Russian Federation Sylvie Berman on radio RFI.
„China always adheres to a peaceful position. So I think he does not support such a move,”, she said, referring to Macron's proposal to send Western troops to Ukraine. She recalled that China has already published its 12-point plan for the settlement of Ukraine, which, among other things, calls for taking into account the security interests of both countries, including Russia. “That is why he has no desire to attend the peace conference organized by Switzerland in June,”, Berman said.
„Even if China does not actually support the war, it cannot refuse to support Russia as long as they have a common enemy in the United States,” she added.
The President of the People's Republic of China on Sunday arrived in France for a state visit that is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both sides. During the visit, the Chinese leader will discuss with the French president the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, trade issues, cooperation in the fields of science, culture and sports, as well as climate issues.
