The Russian Foreign Ministry has warned Paris that if French President Emmanuel Macron sends troops to Ukraine, they will become a legitimate target for the Russian army, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Macron sparked controversy in February after saying he could not rule out the possibility of French forces being deployed to Ukraine in the future.
„It is characteristic that Macron himself explains this rhetoric with the desire to create some kind of “strategic uncertainty” for Russia. We have to disappoint him - to us, the situation seems more than certain. If the French appear in the conflict zone, they will inevitably become targets for the Russian armed forces. Paris already has evidence of this”, said Zakharova.
She pointed out that Russia has recently observed an increase in the number of French citizens among those killed on the battlefield in Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said yesterday that it will soon hold a military exercise that will include practicing the use of tactical nuclear weapons after the emergence of “threats” on the part of France, Great Britain and the United States, Reuters recalls.
