Spy scandal in London! Britain expels Russian defense attaché

The UK Home Office has expelled a Russian diplomat who was " military intelligence officer", Sky News points out.

Home Secretary James Cleverley said the measures were taken because of the "reckless and dangerous actions of the Russian government across Europe".

"I can tell the House of Commons that we will expel the Russian defense attaché who has not declared that he is a military intelligence officer," he said.

He then outlined other measures to be adopted.

"We will withdraw the status of diplomatic premises from several Russian-owned properties in the UK which we believe have been used for intelligence purposes. We are also imposing new restrictions on Russian diplomatic visas, including limiting the amount of time Russian diplomats can spend in the UK.

"Our message to Russia is clear: stop this illegal war. Withdraw your troops from Ukraine. End this malicious activity," the British minister added.

"The Kremlin will react appropriately," commented the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharaova.
