Political upheaval in Moscow: Putin may fire Lavrov - 1

Russian President Vladimir Putin is not satisfied with the work of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and is considering his dismissal. The Kremlin's big problem is that it has no suitable deputies. About this on the TV channel FREEDOM, the political scientist Igor Reiterovich.

„Rumors about the resignation of Sergey Lavrov have been circulating for a very long time. One of the stated reasons is the reluctance of Lavrov himself to participate in what is happening today in the diplomatic field in the Russian Federation. In addition, today the Kremlin feels some dissatisfaction with Lavrov's work, since during the war against Ukraine, Russia is losing in the diplomatic sphere”, the political expert said.

„The work of the Russian diplomatic corps with the EU countries turned out to be particularly harmful. Therefore, Putin is probably considering Lavrov's resignation. The problem with the current Putin regime, however, is that it has an extremely short bench. There are no candidates for Lavrov's position, Reiterovich added.

He said Russia's big goal right now is to undermine the global peace meeting in Switzerland on June 15-16. At the summit, in addition to the Ukrainian issue, decisions will be made about the global legal order, so the Russian Federation is trying to convince more countries to ignore the event, so that it can then object to its legitimacy.

„Russia's attention is focused on African countries, Arab countries, China, etc. The Russians work quite actively with these countries. And their logic is very primitive - they want as few countries as possible to participate in the summit. So that later there is an argument that all the decisions that were made at the event are not supported by half the countries of the world. That is why they are trying quantitatively to somehow reverse the situation”, the political scientist explained.
