Athens to Skopje: If you don't comply with the agreements, the road to Europe will be closed - 1

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis once again issued a warning to the new leadership of North Macedonia that non-compliance with the Prespa Agreement with Greece will block the country's path to EU membership, reports Kathimerini, quoted by bTA.

On the occasion of the refusal of the President of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and the future Prime Minister Hristijan Mitskoski to comply with the agreement on the name of the country, Mitsotakis said today that "when you pull the rope, you must be ready to you break".

If the leadership of North Macedonia deviates from the agreed course, “the road to Europe will be closed", Mitsotakis said and emphasized that this road "passes through Greece and through compliance with international law".

In 2018, Athens and Skopje signed an agreement in Prespa, by which the former Republic of Macedonia agreed to change its name to the “Republic of North Macedonia”, and Greece withdrew its objections to its accession to NATO and the European Union.

At her inauguration as President of North Macedonia on May 12, Gordana Siljanovska pronounced only "Macedonia" instead of the constitutional name of the state Republic of North Macedonia.
