Restarting the Zaporizhzhia NPP and resuming production at the plant is currently impossible, Raphael said Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), quoted by the BBC.

"We discussed the possibility of restarting the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which currently, according to common understanding, seems impossible," Grossi said after talks in Kaliningrad with the head of "Rosatom" Alexey Likhachev.

Grossi called for conditions to be provided to rule out any nuclear accident due to external influence.

"These circumstances do not allow us to talk about it (the restart of the Zaporizhia NPP) now. However, this does not prevent us from discussing how we can further establish such a restart when such conditions are met, Grossi told reporters.

Zaporozhka nuclear power plant has not produced electricity since then, but it itself requires a constant supply of electricity to cool one of the reactors, which is not completely disconnected from the grid.

The plant is subject to constant drone attacks, which Moscow and Kiev blame each other for.

Earlier, the IAEA announced a "serious deterioration of the nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhia plant" due to an increase in attacks that Grossi called irresponsible and dangerous.

Likhachev agreed with the head of the IAEA about the impossibility of restarting the Zaporizhzhya NPP at the moment, but called the technical condition of the plant "absolutely safe".

"We assess the current state, the technical state, the state related to personnel at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as absolutely safe," said the head of "Rosatom".
