Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels have attacked a Greek merchant ship in the Red Sea, the American Central Military Command (CENTCOM) announced last night, quoted by BTA.

The Houthis fired at the ship “Laax” (Laax), owned by a Greek company, five missiles. The ship reported that it was hit by three of them, according to the message of the US command, published on the “X“ platform.

The vessel was able to continue on its course. There are no reports of injured crew members.

US Central Command forces have destroyed five unmanned aerial systems launched from the Houthi-controlled part of Yemen, the publication also said.

Islamist rebels have launched their attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, arguing that they want to force Israel to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, which began after the attack by “Hamas” on Israeli territory on October 7. Although they have said they are targeting vessels associated with Israel, many of the vessels they attack have no connection to the Israeli state.

More and more ships are avoiding the shorter route between Asia and Europe via the Red Sea and bypassing Africa by the long route around the Cape of Good Hope.
