About 45 absconders from mobilization died while trying to flee Ukraine through mountains and rivers. This was announced by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
According to data posted on the district department's Facebook page, border officials "have already counted almost 45 people who have died while trying to overcome natural obstacles". At the same time, the press service points out that these are only confirmed data and suggests that the real number of deaths is higher.
It is noted that border guards have repeatedly found corpses in rivers and mountains on the border with the EU. The press service called such citizens “victims of adventurism or cowardice”. In May alone, 10 people died trying to cross the border river Tisza.
Citizens are also warned that there has recently been an increase in the appearance of wild animals, especially bears, in the border area. Earlier, the border guards had already scared those who wanted to leave the country illegally, with a meeting with bears.
A general mobilization has been declared and repeatedly extended in Ukraine since February 2022, while the authorities are doing everything possible to prevent men of military age from defecting from the service.
On May 18, a law to tighten mobilization came into force in Ukraine, which will allow hundreds of thousands more Ukrainians to be drafted into the army.
