< p>The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said that he had signed the law on foreign agents, with which it came into force, TASS and BTA reported.
"Today I signed the Foreign Influence Transparency Act into law. The purpose of this law is to strengthen the political, economic and social system of Georgia in terms of external interference," Papuashvili said at a briefing.
The Parliament of Georgia, controlled by the party "Georgian Dream" of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, passed the law according to which organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad must register as agents of foreign influence. The law caused large street protests, notes Reuters.
